Hoodia: A South African Tradition (And Beyond)
October 14, 2009
There are a number of types of hoodia, and only the gordonii species is one that suppresses appetite. At any rate, this article tells a little bit about this plant course in general as a South African tradition.
Usage in Meals
It often was consumed in ways similar to a cucumber. It taste is a little bit on the bitter side though. Nonetheless, it has always seemed to be used as a viable South African nutritional staple.
It has since been used in other parts of the world in recipes such as chili or tuna salad. It also has been mixed in with salads that contain numerous types of fruits and vegetables.
Most of the time this product is eaten raw. Not much info is available right now on the value of cooked hoodia, if there is any.
Use in Supplements
It seems the purest hoodia is best for dieting-ones made without any other ingredients. However, it also seems to be effective when used as part of a tea or along with other safe, healthy natural plant sources.
It is also incorporated into treats such as those covered in chocolate. However, all in all the best source seems to be just an authentic C.I.T.E.S. certified version of just this plant by itself.
History
Ancient Bushmen tribes of the Kalahari South African desert first employed it in their diets. The result was amazing-that they could go longer times without feeling hunger. This became especially helpful during famines or on long exhibitions.
Got something to say?
